The Human League Association

Make a Difference with a Human Approach

A not-for-profit organization based in the City of Greater Sudbury .

Announcement: August 6, 2024

On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Human League, I would like to thank all of our past and present Staff, Partners, Sponsors and Program Participants. Your support clearly exemplifies making a difference in the lives of the poor.

For over 3 decades, the Human League has been a staple in the Northern Ontario Not-For-Profit space. Collectively, we raised millions of dollars with no government contribution and helped tens of thousands of poor kids receive a nutritious breakfast, have access to The Vault and participate in our PLAY (Positive Leisure Activity for Youth) program.

From our humble beginning with a group of like-minded Humans looking to make a positive difference, we built award winning model's that have been exercised globally.

Three years ago, as a result of staffing, Covid and the economy, we formed a synergy with the Sudbury Manitoulin Children's Foundation and transfered PLAY Program delivery and administration to their organization. To date, it continue's to make a huge difference in the lives of less fortunate children.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile on a 5 or 6 year old when they receive their toast, juice and bowl of cereal. For many, it's an event in their life! The same applies for the child that plays alone in the school yard and never gets to wear a team jacket, or the struggling high school student, access to food, school supplies and hygiene products.

While many of these programs were founded and built by the Human League, we take great pride in knowing that they 'will' continue to make kids smile and level the playing field. Bravo SMCF for continuing the mission!

Sadly, effective September 1st, The Human League will be transferring our Vault Program to SMCF and winding down the Charity.

All applications and request for support moving forward can be directed to Anne Salter Executive Director of the SMCF.

Thank you all for the journey,  memories and remember, we can change the world, one child at a time.

Kind regards,

Rod LaRocque,

President, The Human League

Value Vault Program

Our Value Vault initiative is aimed at bringing youth from low income families basic essentials.

This program operates in a number of high schools within Greater Sudbury and provides access to clothing, hygiene products and food. It is estimated that 30 to 40 students use this service daily.

With your help, we can continue to provide these basic necessities to youth in need.

The Play Program

Did you know one in three Canadian families cannot afford to enroll their children in sports or recreation activities?

The PLAY (Positive Leisure Activities for Youth) Program is dedicated to removing barriers so children can participate in organized sport and recreation. Children who are eligible for the program can access up to $250 per seasonal application to help pay for leisure activities.

Children benefit from organized sport and recreation as they gain self-confidence, develop self-esteem, learn leadership skills, and improve their overall well-being. This is the power of PLAY.
